Nursing Home Attorneys

Our attorneys get calls daily from concerned family members asking for recommendations on nursing home placement for a loved one. There are a ton of nursing homes out there, so finding the right one can be difficult. To get you started, our attorneys have compiled a list of things to do to help you make an informed decision:

What to ask
When choosing a nursing home, families often have a list of questions for the nursing home staff, but can at times ignore the person who matters most — the person who will be living at the facility you choose. If possible, ask your loved one:

  • Are you comfortable?

  • Do you feel safe and secure?

  • Do you feel valued and respected?

  • Do you like the food?

  • If you need to use the washroom, does someone come promptly?

  • If you need help and you push the call button, how long before somebody comes?

  • Have you gotten to know any of the other residents?

  • Do you like the staff?

  • How often do you see your doctor or a nurse?

Additionally, you should be able to ask staff members about your loved one. If they are unfamiliar with their own patients, it is a sign that residents may not be getting the individualized care they need.

With all of the nursing home choices available, families often have considerations beyond the quality of the nursing home or the nursing home’s ranking. Such considerations are an important factor in determining the right facility for your loved one.

Glenview, Illinois, and the surrounding area are home to several nursing care facilities. Below is a list of the nursing homes in Glenview and their ratings according to U.S. News & World Report. Our attorneys have not personally assessed each of these nursing homes or their ratings, but this list can provide you a starting point toward finding one that is right for you.

Keep in mind that a high rating is not necessarily indicative that your loved one will receive good care at the facility and a poor score does not mean that your loved one is destined to be abused or neglected if placed there. Do your own due diligence before choosing where to place your loved one.
