Health effects of exposure to toxic mold

On Behalf of Rosenberg, Eisenberg & Associates, LLC | February 9, 2023 | Premises Liability

You can find mold in any place that has oxygen and moisture present. For example, when landlords, property owners, and businesses neglect maintenance, toxic mold can build up over time, causing extreme health issues and even fatalities.

Mold usually appears in moist areas, including showers, bathrooms, basements, and other dark, humid areas in your home or business. Unfortunately, it often goes undetected due to being in places where sight may seem invisible. Mold is also frequently found on walls and other moist surfaces as clusters of black dots with a "fuzzy" look, black stains, or specks of black or brown.

Any person is susceptible to the health effects listed below, but mold can affect everyone differently. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention reports that mold exposure can cause adverse symptoms such as:

  • Skin irritation - including red or itchy eyes

  • Dizziness

  • Nausea

  • Headache

  • Fatigue

  • Breathing difficulty

  • Sneezing
